Music Festival Fashion that Won’t Break the Bank

The festival season’s long-awaited muddy catwalks are back. The likes of Glastonbury merge music, politics and art while celebrities and festival junkies flaunt some of fashion’s best trends.

festival fashionThe love affair between music and fashion is far from new. Think back to the ’60s and ’70s golden era of Woodstock and the Isle of Wight Festival; Jimi Hendrix’s fringe crop top (left), Marianne Faithful’s snakeskin jacket and Janis Joplin’s floaty tie-dye frock.

Festival fashion aficionados – especially those in the UK – are all about mixing and matching styles, textures and colours. High street brands have caught and are complementing classic looks with current trends.

Glastonbury was a style success again this year. Music fans opted for huge flower crowns, tropical print tops, playful hairstyles and colourful makeup. Some outfits still managed to stand out among the colourful crowds – the giant, red heart costumes (below) were hard to miss.

festival fashionFashion icon Alexa Chung sported less eccentric attire, wearing black skinny jeans and an oversized red check jacket. Designer Stella McCartney was pictured in a denim mini-dress, sunglasses and platform brogues in red, white and blue – by Stella, of course.

Festival fashion isn’t always easy. You need to pack light and smart so include pieces that can be layered and are waterproof. Set your sights on these essentials to get you through this season’s festivals.

Denim

festival fashionDenim dungarees, shorts, hot pants, dresses and miniskirts are like a blank canvas, making it easy to play with different textures, accessories and colours. Denim looks great with boots, trainers and when layered with basic t-shirts and tops.

Try Mango’s Star Denim Dungaree Skirt – £19.99

The Dress

festival fashionFluid floral dresses create a fab effortless look for field festivities. Pair with sturdy ankle boots for the muddy ground and a black leather jacket in the evening.

Topshop’s Hanky Hem Floral Dress is a perfect pick – £49.99

The Kimono

festival fashionA kimono is a cool option for staying warm on chilly nights and early mornings. Giant florals and abstract print kimonos give a boost of colour to your outfit when teamed with trusty denim shorts and a t-shirt.

We like New Look’s Yellow Floral Print 3/4 Sleeve Kimono  – £22.99

The Jacket

festival fashionA jacket is practical, fashionable and your ultimate statement piece. Keeping warm and dry doesn’t have to look dowdy and the right jacket can make an outfit. Steal the Snapchat spotlight with daring designs and a tassel or two.

Zara’s Faux Suede Jacket with Fringe channels your inner Jimi – £39.99

The Boots

festival fashionUnlike southern Europe’s Benicassim or Primavera, a UK music festival means unpredictable weather. Cold, rain and wind may become a reality and those beautiful white trainers and strappy sandals will be ruined in an instant. Thankfully wellies have become a waterproof festival classic worn by Alexa Chung and Kate Moss. Opt for bright colours and some sparkle to make sure your outfit isn’t a washout.

Sparkle with Asos GANGSTER Glitter Wellies – £20.00
