Football: Here’s How United Win the League

Manchester United has been a club in transition ever since the exit of Sir Alex Ferguson and whether the fans like it or not, many of its titles were due to the Scottish manager’s own grit and desire to win trophies.

Now it’s Jose’s time and with the Ferguson days finished the club has quickly become a results-driven machine that is well some say lacks flair. I will explain in the next 526 words how I plan to change that as manager.

Where Do I Start?

unitedThis United team needs a big change and luckily for the fans, the club has almost unlimited funds. Louis Van Gaal’s signings made that clear. He signed several big-name players and even though most of them failed the fans did not really care, they just moaned about his possession-style football. The first thing I’m going to do as boss is spend the cash.

Out: Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Daley Blind and Wayne Rooney.

You may think I have something against the defence and you would be right. Going from the likes of Steve Bruce, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic to Smalling, Jones and Blind is shocking for a club of any size. Smalling made more errors on the ball than any other defender in the Premier League last season and his partner Jones gave the ball away more often than any other centre-back when playing a forward pass.

If you are a professional and want to play for the best clubs in the world you really should be able to pass out from the back with comfort, which sometimes means playing longer forward passes. Another man who has been hiding under the radar is Daley Blind.

The Dutch midfielder turned centre-back has been exposed by pacey forwards in many big games but for some reason he escapes criticism. Blind is arguably slower than Wes Brown and he’s nowhere near the standard The Reds require.

After dishing out all that criticism, there’s one player I would let go in a respectful way, Rooney. He has shown class and great leadership qualities in the way he has managed himself since being dropped from the starting team. Despite being a United legend, his performance levels have become so poor that you can’t tell whether he’s a footballer or a darts player. His physique is poor, his running ability is dreadful and overall he has become embarrassing to watch.

Now, the fun part – spending money. With Cristiano Ronaldo wanting to move away from Real Madrid, he would be my first signing. I would break the bank to bring him back to Old Trafford so he could lead us to a title. His ability to score goals is exactly what this club needs as he’s proven that you can’t defend against him – Juventus tried with three centre-backs and failed. United is already known for breaking the bank to sign players so I would make Ivan Perisic my second big signing of the summer and then close off the transfer window by snapping up PSG central defender Marquinhos. The plan is to build an adequate team around Cristiano and let him do the magic in the final third.

What the starting XI would look like.

With David De Gea in goal, I’m not too concerned about the defence – I want to make United entertaining again. Paul Pogba will lead a midfield three alongside Mkhitaryan and new boy Perisic. With Ronaldo as the main forward and blistering speed coming from his fellow forwards Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial I’m sure the fun will be back at Old Trafford.

Where would we finish?

First, with Ronaldo winning the Gold Boot yet again.
