Finally Mobile Apps to Tackle Your Council

London is so diverse and vibrant that it is often hard to stay on top of what is going on in your area and even harder to know how to make contact with your council. Fear not! We have found five apps that make it a lot easier to communicate with your council, report problems and stay up to date with what is going on in your ‘hood.

Grab your phone, open up your app store, and tell us which apps are most helpful.

FixMyStreet

appsThe name is pretty self-explanatory. Fix My Street is both a website and an app where you can easily let the council know about anything broken in your area. It could not be simpler.

Once you notice something is broken on the street, or simply does not look right, grab your phone, take a picture, and send it on the app. Done! You have fulfilled your duty as an exemplary citizen. You can use the app to track the progress of your fixing suggestions and follow up if nothing has been done.

A must-have if you really like your part of town and want it to look nice.

You can download FixMyStreet for free here.

My Council Services UK

appsMy Council Services is the ultimate all-in-one app for communicating directly with your council. It allows you to report problems, get updates on what is going on in your local area and pay your council tax or even your gym membership.

The app is very easy to use, though it does take some time to set up. It’s handy to have because you can quickly report anything from a missed bin collection to a damaged pavement, straight from your phone.

Self-Evident

appsSelf-Evident is an easy way to report crime anonymously. The operators work closely with councils and the police to read messages and react in the fastest and most appropriate way.

If you cannot call the police for some reason, or you do not really know how to report a crime you have just witnessed, get this app and use it.

Bin-Ovation

appsWhen you move into a new place, it can take a bit of time to learn when to put out the various bins. Getting it wrong can even lead to a fine, and you won’t be happy if the council changes your collection day and you don’t get the memo.

Bin-ovation is an app that gives you with all the useful information related to bin collection by your local council. Dates, times, and changes in collection days are all included, making it easy to quickly check all the information you could forget.

If your council is not listed, you can submit a request form.

Check it out here.

Circle London

appsOkay, this one isn’t really related to your council, but it’s a great app to use in case of an emergency. Circle is a messaging app but not just any messaging app.

It allows you to create “circles” of friends and you can see exactly where the people in your circle are at any moment. You can have as many circles as you like: for family, for friends, co-workers, and you can also see the closest safety spots approved by police and local councils.

It calls itself “the personal safety app for Londoners” and when there is an emergency, Circle is a great app to have on your phone. It involves a bit of setting up but is definitely worth the hassle.
