Tech: So You Need a New Laptop?

A laptop is one of the most essential tools of a 21st Century human being. It allows you to work, communicate, create and relax. On top of that they keep getting more powerful and smaller in size. They are getting so small and so strong that we even have a word for it – the Ultrabook. Here are the top 4 ultrabooks:

4. Macbook Air

laptopThe Macbook Air is a beautifully designed and extremely durable laptop thanks to its aluminium build. It has a 13-inch screen and weighs 2.96 pounds. In terms of performance it can have a maximum of 8GB of RAM, 1.6GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor and 256Gb storage and 1440×900 screen resolution, making it the least powerful laptop on this list.

The keyboard is backlit and like the trackpad it has a nice feel to it. There are two USB ports, a thunderbolt port and SD card port.  This laptop will cost you  £949-1,099

3. Surfacebook Pro

laptopThe Surfacebook pro is Microsoft’s own creation and part of why it’s so good is that it runs really well with Windows 10. The screen is detachable and responsive to touch which can be really useful for designers.  With a  13.5-inch screen it weighs 3.34 pounds, making it the heaviest Ultrabook on this list.

The laptop has a strong build and good technical specifications as it can have up to 16Gb of RAM and 1TB of storage and has an Intel core I7 2.7Ghz processor. The screen resolution is 2160 x 1400. It has two USB ports, a mini-display port and an SD card port. It will set you back £1449-£2384.

2. Dell XPS 13

laptopMy favourite thing about this laptop is its infinity edge display. The XPS 13 has 16Gb RAM, 256Gb storage and Intel core I7 2.7Ghz processors. It has two USB ports, SD card slot and a Thunderport port.

It weighs 2.9 pounds and has a 13-inch screen.  The screen resolution is really good (3200 x 1800) and it’s touchscreen. The Dell XPS 13 will cost you  £1149-£1429.

1. Razer Blade Stealth

laptopRazer is primarily a gaming brand however the Razer Blade Stealth is geared less towards gamers and more towards regular users and creatives. It has a 12.5-inch 4K or QHD touchscreen display, weighs 2.8 pounds  and has two USB ports and an HDMI port.

In terms of performance it has a 7th-gen 2.7GHz Intel Core i7-7500U CPU with 16GB of RAM and can have up to 1TB of storage space. It also looks really cool (maybe a tiny bit geeky). This laptop costs £1549-£1999.

In order to rank these laptops I looked at performance, design, functionality and value for money. All the laptops on this list are excellent and will do the job for everyday tasks.

If you plan to use your new laptop to run film editing, graphic design or music production software I would strongly recommend the Razer Blade Stealth or Dell XPS 13 as they will definitely do the job and you will look cool in the process.
