Football: Success for Spurs Means Keeping Poch and Team Together

After 21 seasons behind Arsenal in the table, Tottenham is finally going to finish above the Gunners, signalling the beginning of a new era in North London.

Unfortunately for Spurs, it won’t last long. For the past 21 seasons straight Arsenal has outdone its neighbour. That’s a lot of persistence over a long period of time. Arsenal is now in a bad run of form, momentum and most of all luck. Gooners have been booing Arsene Wenger, pushing him away from the club which he has held together in much more difficult times and they will end up regretting it once he walks away from an empire he has built.

pochOff the pitch Spurs may be catching up to Arsenal with the development of a new stadium and on the pitch the White Hart Lane faithful may be enjoying one of the best young squads they’ve ever seen. Let’s not forget that the club is still run by Daniel Levy, a man who would swap his own kids for a bit of extra cash to spend at a shopping mall. That is where Spurs’ downfall will come.

It has been an incredible campaign for Spurs but as a club they will not surpass Arsenal any time soon. Mauricio “Poch” Pochettino is a wanted man with the Barcelona vacancy looming. One thing the Catalans love is a young manager with a tactical brain and a never-say-die attitude. The Lilywhites will be disappointed to know that Poch has all of the above and seems a perfect fit for Barca. Anybody who believes he would turn down such a once in a lifetime opportunity has lost their mind.

Everton and Liverpool have a similar rivalry. The Blues have finished above The Reds a couple of times in recent years but the “big club” mentality always kicks in, leading to Liverpool bouncing back the following season.

Arsenal has been the bigger club for a long time and that isn’t something that will vanish over 12 months. The current Spurs side includes a number of players who will be wanted by the biggest clubs in Europe and with Levy leading the transfer policy, you wouldn’t be blamed for thinking he may cash in on several of his star players. And we already know that Spurs don’t know how to spend well – just look at what happened after Gareth Bale was sold. Arsenal has also sold some top players in the past but the quality of follow-up purchases is the difference between the two clubs.

Levy’s love of a bit of extra pocket change could ease the pressure on Arsenal, giving The Gunners time to rebuild their own squad and regain their dominance in North London.
