To be yourself on a date includes how you dress. Saying this, however, we all want to put in that little extra effort for that special someone this Valentine’s day if you have a date lined up. Although there are some prevalent trends that a lot of women try to follow from the never-ending posts on social media telling us that we have to wear it to be ‘relevant’ and up-to-date with trends, date night dressing is something very personal. We all want to feel beautiful and sexy but in a way that is comfortable for ourselves.
What someone else wears to feel empowered and confident won’t necessarily make the next woman feel the same. There’s nothing more uncomfortable than dressing like someone else and feeling that you’re putting on a façade in front of that someone special. Whoever you are and whatever you’re most comfortable in, here are three main date-night looks that you can tailor to suit your personal preference.
The LBD:
The classic Little Black Dress will never die. It is timeless for a reason and most women own at least one (if not 5 like myself) LBD’s. To keep your LBD up to date this season, think about showing a little skin with some subtle and elegant cut outs. Don’t show too much skin though – there still has to remain some mystery and imagination.
If cut-outs aren’t for you, think ruffles. Whether you want to show off your collar bone with an off-the-shoulder number or ruffles along the hemlines to float as you walk, both are very in-trend and you can alter the ruffle trend to your personal taste. Add some bright red lipstick and statement jewelry to make an even greater impact. Stick to simple black heels or boots to not distract from the simple elegance of your dress. Keep it chic and up-to date.
The Bold and Brave:
Some women love to turn heads on date-night to make their partner know that they’re more than lucky to have this wonderful woman by their side. To do this while still keeping it sleek and elegant, wear a bold patterned midi-skirt. Don’t be afraid to mix your patterned skirt with another pattern top / jumper.
If you’re going for a bold and confident look, follow through from top to bottom and you’ll turn eyes in just the same way. To keep it looking sexy and not tacky, keep your shoes and accessories minimal and subtle. A simple gold necklace and earrings with black shoes and bag is all that is needed to finish off the look.
Ladylike Tailoring:
Office power dressing can be brought to the dinner table in a beautiful and sleek way. This is a more mature date-night look but if done correctly, can be the most jaw dropping without showing any skin. Wear high-waisted wide leg trousers with a beautifully tailored white blouse or a sexy ruffled off shoulder white shirt tucked in to emphasize your waist-line.
Pair with strappy high heels to just show off a bit of ankle to keep the look night-appropriate and show that you’re not still in office mode. Wear a matte red lipstick and some light mascara and you’re ready to step out of the office and into Sushi-Samba.
