It’s that time of the week again and the team here at Felix have compiled the third Felix Fridays playlist in honour of the second ever SoYoung Festival being held this week. The festival, from Wednesday-Friday is hosted by SoYoung Magazine, a publication making waves within the indie rock music scene and is taking place at the Old Blue Last.
The line-up is killer and you can find all our top picks on our Felix Fridays playlist on Spotify.
Wednesday
Wednesday was the first night of festivities at the Old Blue Last. The headliner for each night was a surprise guest announced on the day and for the first evening of the festival, we weren’t disappointed.
Childhood (left) is a true romantic. Discover Childhood with Californian Lights on our Felix Friday #3 playlist!
We managed to catch Milk Disco earlier on, and it is 100% rock’n’roll, 100% disco and 100% original: a must-listen.
Thursday
Thursday was a busy night and if you weren’t familiar with the line up, you have some great discoveries waiting for you. Hotel Lux is a mysterious post-punk band with lovely melodies and a good rhythm.
Sorry (FKA FISH) performed after Hotel Lux and absolutely smashed it. It was a crazy light show and what an attitude! We can’t wait for the band’s music to be on Spotify.
The headline act on Thursday was The Magic Gang (left). These guys are absolutely on fire. Funny story: a few months ago, their label offered free T-shirts to everyone signing up to the mailing list. Unfortunately for them, more than 5000 people signed up, leaving the label unable to fulfill the order as it would have cost more than 20 grand, making the band look pretty bad.
All that’s behind them though. Check out “How Can I Compete“ in our Felix Fridays playlist.
Friday
If you don’t know Pale Seas yet, you have to go them on Friday. Smooth, mellow and yet rocky, their music is perfect for a relaxed evening with friends.
Rhythm Method is definitely one of the highlights on Friday. As its name suggests, it has amazing rhythm and it is guaranteed to get you on your feet!
Finally, the surprise headliners for Friday are Superfood (left). Their latest self-released record is gold, and the first one in three years, so we’re excited to see what they’ve got planned for one of their first live shows since their return. Get familiar with the band by listening to “Superfood,” one of their classics.
Good bands, free beer from Camden Town Brewery (at least for a little while) and all in one venue, that is what SoYoung Festival offers.
All gigs are free and they operate on a first-come first-served basis so make sure you look out for them next year, or tonight if you get down there early enough!
More to come Felix Fridays listeners…
