Tech: How Virtual Reality Will Change the World

Virtual Reality is merely at the dawn of what it will soon be able to offer. It is an artificial environment that is created by software and presented to the user in such a way that the user suspends belief and accepts it as a real environment.

You need a VR headset to experience it and the current leaders in VR technology are the Occulus Rift and the HTC Vive. Brace yourself – this is how VR is going to change the world as we know it!

Experience Marketing

Let’s say you’ve saved up for a once in a lifetime vacation to the Bahamas and you’ve been thinking of booking a specific hotel. Well, it won’t be long before you can experience exactly where you will be staying through VR. Some companies already do this type of experience marketing. Have a look at the latest VR ad from Mercedes.

They are not the only ones doing this and there will be many more to come.

Learning

Learning new skills will be made much easier and more accessible through VR. When you want to learn how to cook a new dish, you will be able to experience it from the perspective of a Michelin-star chef and then try to recreate it in your own kitchen. The US military has already been using VR to train soldiers. The applications are endless – soldiers can learn how to shoot without risking getting shot and how to fight hand to hand, parachute, fly and do a thousand other tasks.

Entertainment

As a DJ you can host virtual shows through its platform. There is also a company called Soundstage which allows you to make music in VR. As for gaming, The Oculus Rift, the HTC Vive and the PlayStation VR headset all come with controllers which can be used for gaming. Gaming in VR is much more immersive and brings a new dynamic to gaming.

You will probably have to be in good shape to be the best at first-person shooter games in VR! Finally, in terms of movies, there are already some films which are available in VR such as the Lion King, the Hunger Games, Star Wars and School of Rock with many more to come. VR could possibly become the norm in the entertainment industry as film, music, and gaming are all adopting the technology.

So far we are only scratching the surface of how Virtual Reality is changing the world. Give it another couple of years and some people might be spending more time in VR than in the real world!
