The Three Best Apps For Ordering Lunch In London

Every once in a while the best-laid plans for lunch fly out of the window leaving us hungry and unable to decide where to go or what to eat. That’s why we have done the hard work of trying out the best apps for lunch in London. No matter your location or situation we have the best recommendations for how to lunch in London…

When You Want Lunch To Come To You: UberEATS

lunchWhen Uber took the private hire car industry by storm we didn’t anticipate its next ingenious move. When UberEATS launched in London, it was hands down one of the best marketing campaigns going, and got everyone talking. Things have died down a little now but this food delivery service seems to be here to stay.

The premise of UberEATS is that you download the app (you can do that here – https://www.ubereats.com/london/) which gives you access to the menus of more than 100 different restaurants from which you can have lunch delivered. We’ve tried it all, from the healthy options at Vita Mojo, Leon restaurants and GymBites Salads, to the indulgent from Patty & Bun, frozen yoghurt from Snog and donuts from Crosstown Donuts. The app is simple to use, delivery is quick and we really don’t know why somebody wouldn’t try it out.

If you’re looking for more inspiration, check out the chicken and waffles from Absurd Bird, Pizza from Sodo Pizza Hoxton, bubble tea from Bubbleology, and WeGrill for healthier options.

When You Want A Michelin Experience: Eat First

lunchEat First are another food delivery service but its daily-changing menu is designed and created in-house by head chef Benn Hodges, seven days a week from 11am till 10pm. Once you download the app (https://www.eatfirst.com/home) you can browse menu options for brunch, lunch, dinner and everything in-between. Delivery is a little slower in that you need to order at least 60-90 minutes before you want to eat but it’s worth the wait. Once you choose your delivery slot, the app keeps you up to date on where your food is. Your food arrives chilled and ready to be either microwaved or heated in the oven (depending on your office facilities or whether you are at home).

We tried it, and especially loved the butternut squash quesadillas, triple chocolate brownie, and the beetroot, sweet potato and grains salad. Eat First also have a selection of drinks (including alcohol) and snacks available to order from local London brands like Soffles Pitta Chips. You can even get £7.50 off your first order if you use the code RF9HV51K.

When You Want A Bargain: MealPal

lunchIf you are a serial “al-desko” luncher then MealPal (https://mealpal.co.uk) is for you. We’re keeping an eye on this app as it has just launched in London and we think it’s going to be getting bigger and better with time. The premise is that you buy a monthly package of either 12 or 20 meals on a rolling subscription. Each evening at 5.30 pm, the “kitchen” opens allowing you to order in lunch for the next day (until 9.30 am). Restaurants listed on the app offer a meal option each day for between £4.39 – £4.79 per meal, which can add up to a substantial saving if you choose the right restaurants. For now the restaurant locations are limited to Soho, The City and Canary Wharf but as we said, we think they’ll be expanding soon. We got a little addicted to Chilangos (City locations), The Good Schnit (off Bow Lane, City) and Mother Clucker (Soho).

This one is definitely more suited to the nine-to-fiver as meal options are available only on weekdays (excluding Bank Holidays). You choose a 15-minute slot on the app to pick up your lunch so when you arrive you can skip the queue, grab your meal and head back to the office (or the nearest spread of grass with sunshine) to eat your choice of the day.
