We’ve all heard of Paleo, but it seems the ‘caveman’ diet (in which, followers consume a wholefoods diet of meat, fish, eggs, veggies, fruit and nuts) has gone mainstream in the capital more recently. No longer reserved for a handful of food purists, everyone from foodies to fitness lovers are adopting this diet. But how easy is it to follow? Well, for those in London, it’s becoming easier by the day- with everything from street food to fine dining all available on our doorstep.
Quick and Easy Lunch Venues
Cavemen and women lovers rejoiced when Feed Me Primal launched the first ever Paleo streetfood stall 3 years ago. The stall, pops up all over at London’s best food markets and they’ve now found themselves a permanent home at Boxpark in Croydon. Dishes range from grass fed steak to freshly made flatbread. Our mouths are watering and as dishes are all under a tenner, our wallets are happy too.
Carve, located on Tooley Street, is also a great place for a quick and tasty lunch. Their premise is simple: good quality protein (whether it be meat, fish or tofu) with a range of tasty sides. Their protein mix box is perfect for gym lovers to grab on the way back from a workout.
Not all sides are paleo friendly but there’s plenty of options (including the mouth watering chilli sweet potato).
Paleo Eating Out
For something fancier, Hawksmoor is a paleo paradise. Famed for it’s amazing steak, this Covent Garden eatery offers sustainable meat which changes daily depending on the restaurant’s stock. It’s not cheap but completely worth it. If your date is non-paleo there’s plenty for them too. Beef dripping chips anybody?
If you fancy a Sunday lunch, The Riding House Cafe offers a roast dinner for two that’s not to be missed.
Veggie Power
Paleo isn’t just about the meat- plant power plays an important role in this lifestyle too.Located in Covent Garden, the Wild Food Cafe is a plant based restaurant and is described as a ‘well-being oasis’. And with plenty of innovative dishes packed with organic veggies on offer, it’s hard not to agree. The cafe offers communal seating-so there’s plenty of chance to meet like minded friends- and hosts a range of classes to learn more about health and wellness topics. Other good plant-based eateries to try are Tibits and Tanya’s Cafe
Where to Shop
For Paleo basics, Wholefoods is undoubtedly the easiest place to shop. Scattered all over London, they’re a great place to stock up on nut milks, paleo snacks and organic veggies. Planet Organic also offers a range of Paleo friendly products. If you’re feeling lazy, Paleo Chef offers a range of meal plans, delivered right to your door.
