We love a pub quiz. It’s a great opportunity to eat, drink, be brilliant. There’s so much need for a humble pub quiz – it can reunite old friends or be the perfect way to introduce new ones. They break the ice without breaking the bank, and you may end up going home with more money than you came with. What’s not to love? On top of all this you get food, drink and an unforgettable eve.
We’ve rounded up some for you to try out, whether you’re a qualified combatant or a brand new brainbox. Just remember to always book ahead: many of these are popular and always full to the brim, so don’t miss out.
Monday: The Antelope
We’ve mentioned Tooting’s Antelope before, and it’s fast becoming a favourite pub. Now we can add quizzes to it’s growing list of reasons to go visit. The Antelope pub quiz has a healthy mix of trivia, from comics to sport, geography to general knowledge. There are bar tabs and bottles of wine up for grabs too. It’s done under a canopy flickering fairy lights with a slap up menu to match. Good for the brain, great for the belly.
Monday at 8pm, entry is free
Tuesday: The Old Queen’s Head
It might have old in the title, but their quiz is all about the new. Leave your quiz expectations by the door as you’re less likely to need knowledge of grand national winners and more likely to want superior kazoo skills. There’s dirty doodle rounds as well as some brain teasers, and there are cash and drink prizes to be won.
Tuesday at 7pm, £2 per person
Wednesday: The Boogaloo
Claiming to be the longest running and greatest music quiz in London, The Boogaloo is worth a Wednesday wander to Highgate. Who Killed Bambi is the quiz name, and interactive pop culture, music and film questions are the increasingly difficult game. There’s even a league here for the hard hitters and prizes begging for your best efforts.
Wednesday 8pm, £2 per person
Thursday: Elm Park Tavern
This is an ever popular pub quiz in south Brixton that throws some curve balls into the standard set up. Sculpture rounds and the like abound, and the often competitive crowd make this consistently great. Prizes are either money or wine and of course, the unbeatable honour of winning. If you book a table, make sure to get there over ten minutes ahead, else they might give it away due to popularity.
Thursday at 8.30(ash), £1 per person
So there you have it! Sadly, pubs seem to think we have better things to do on Fridays and Saturdays than quiz. They would, of course, be wrong. We can only hope they see the error of their ways sometime soon… In the meantime, make sure to book yourself a table at one of these faves and get boning up on some bonkers facts and totally worthwhile trivia.
