Shop The Edit: The Complete Guide to Underwear Styles!

As the first garment we put on in the morning, wearing the correct knickers is essential. However, it can be confusing with all the different styles out there to understand whats what.  Fortunately for you, we have created a guide describing the design of each style and of course included our favourite pieces.

Briefs:

As the most common pair of knickers people wear I thought we would start here.  Briefs offer extra coverage; however, it is not quite as simple as that.  There are a variety of styles that fall under briefs including classic briefs, high-cut brief and control briefs.

Bikini:

Bikini knickers are low-waisted and come high on your leg, yet, offer high coverage on your bottom.

Hipster:

Hipster knickers are the in-between of bikini and boyshorts they similarly sit low but have a wider side part.

High-waisted:

High-waisted knickers have come back into fashion recently due to waistbands rising on trousers and skirts. Despite this, the shape can be extremely flattering as it accentuates your waistline. It also has a similar form to shapewear, consequently, it pulls you in at all the right places.

Shape-wear:

Shapewear is ideal to wear underneath an outfit that requires a little body transformation.  It smooths out all the lumps and bumps!  However, it is not limited to plus size women as it simply smoothes outs our rolls, that we all get!

Plus size:

Plus-size underwear is a range of underwear that caters to larger women.  However, high street retailers are yet to agree on what size this should start at and are often set ridiculously low as the average women size in the UK is size 16.  However, there are many online retailers that offer gorgeous, sexy knickers in larger sizes! Some of the items we have listed below are not specifically plus size yet go up to larger sizes than most.

Boyshort:

Boyshorts are the best alternative to wearing your boyfriend’s boxers.  They come lower on your thigh than briefs and cover your entire bottom.

Thong:

Thongs are every girl go to under a figure-hugging outfit.  They offer a small triangle on the buttock but are very skimpy otherwise

G-string:

G-strings are a similar shape to thongs but offer less coverage with no triangle just elastic at the back, whilst having a smaller triangle on the front.

Tangas:

Tangas are in-between bikini briefs and thongs coverage wise.

Brazillian:

Brazillian briefs are identified by the back of the garment. It is larger than a thong but smaller than a bikini and is considered very sexy.

French:

French knickers are longer similar to boy shorts yet often are very floaty and feminine.

Seamless:

The clue is in the name of this one, they do not have any seams, therefore, are undetectable to avoid VPL.
