Music: Watching Bands in London Live

London’s status as one of the world’s greatest cities owes a lot to it’s thriving music scene and watching bands live is just amazing. Although half of London’s live music venues have shut down in the past decade, the scene is still very much alive and these are the places where you can experience the finest live music.

KOKO

bandsSituated at Mornington Crescent just below Camden Town, KOKO looks and sounds fantastic. It has a beautiful balcony from where you can see the stage. Legendary acts have performed at KOKO over the years from the Rolling Stones to Amy Winehouse.

The events are quite varied from DJ sets to live bands and emerging talent. KOKO is definitely a place you need to check out if you haven’t been there yet.

The Victoria

bandsThe Victoria is a hidden gem in Dalston. It supports emerging talent and has nurtured many young bands which went on to make it big. If you are looking for the next big thing this is definitely a place you should hang out.

From the outside it looks like a traditional pub which it sort of is but there is also a bookshelf which you can push open to reveal a music venue! The sound quality in there is fantastic and the people are lovely. Next time you find yourself in Dalston with nothing to do, go check out The Victoria. They have gigs most nights and more often than not they are free!

Moth Club

bandsThe Moth Club is one badass venue in Hackney. It hosts a mix of emerging and established musicians and certainly knows how to throw a good party. I’ve been to many rock and roll nights at the Moth Club and I have never had a bad time.

Its selection of acts is quite varied but mostly centered around rock bands.

Ronnie Scott’s

bandsNo overview of the best London venues could get away with not mentioning the legendary Ronnie Scotts bar. This is the place to be for anyone who loves jazz and it’s situated in the heart of Soho. There are two floors which each run their own program of live music. The top floor is much cheaper and I would strongly recommend going on a Wednesday night as it’s jam night and there are always fantastic musicians jamming out until the early hours.

The bottom floor is a lot classier. You can get a meal and some champagne while enjoying some of the finest jazz performers in the world. There’s a certain energy to this place – you can just feel that some amazing performances have happened here and that there are many more to come!

There you go! If you’re looking for some live music entertainment these are the places you seriously cannot miss out on.
