Health: The Best Outdoor Fitness Classes in London

London has so many outdoor exercise classes that there’s simply no excuse to be stuck inside this summer. There are plenty of ways to get fit in a park, waterway or rooftop garden, all while enjoying the sunshine. The classes range from the odd-sounding Rabble to the better-known British Military Fitness and Parkrun. Here are some of the top outdoor fitness classes in London for you try over the next few months:

British Military Fitness

outdoorBritish Military Fitness is a hardcore boot camp that’ll really get your heart pumping. It involves an uncountable number of squats, lunges, burpees and push-ups as well as lots of running.

British Military Fitness costs around £38 per month and is held in more than 30 parks in London including Battersea Park, Clapham Common, Hampstead Heath and Hyde Park. To find out more, visit www.britmilfit.com.

Buggy Fitness

outdoorIf you have a young child and are willing to get up early then buggy fitness could be a good option for you. This form of exercise is perfect for new mums who are looking to shape up after giving birth.

And you don’t have to worry about getting a nanny to look after your little one as you will magically convert the buggy into a form of exercise equipment!

Parkrun

outdoorFed up with running on a treadmill several times a week? Why not try Parkrun? This local 5km running initiative enables you to get some fresh air while exercising and the bonus is that it is completely free.

In order to take part in Parkrun, head to its website to register and choose an event that is convenient for you. Turn up at the designated time and place on Saturday morning with your barcode (registration) and you’ll be good to go.

ZipFit Club

outdoorsZipFit Club is ideal for anyone who has a habit of sitting at their desk all day and fancies a bit of an active break.

It takes place at lunchtime on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday in Hyde Park with a focus on improving your cardio and bodyweight resistance.

The session starts off with a short jog and stretch which is followed by 20 minutes of interval training before you whizz back to the office for your afternoon meetings.

Rooftop Yoga

outdoorsFor spectacular views and an unforgettable experience you have to try rooftop yoga.

Classes are held at various locations across London including way up high on the 72nd floor of The Shard and on top of a car park in Peckham.

It’s not surprising that rooftop yoga is very popular so make sure you book in advance and get there early to throw down your mat in the spot with the best views. Prices vary depending on the location but are usually between £10 and £20.

Rabble

outdoorDescribed as “the crazy, social sports club with a difference”, Rabble aims to make exercise more fun by encouraging teamwork and transporting you back to your childhood.

The games are suitable for everyone so it doesn’t matter if you’re a novice or think of yourself as “unfit”. You can expect old school playground games such as “Capture the Flag”, “Stuck in the Mud” and “British Bulldog”.

There will be so much nostalgia that you might not even notice you’ve broken into a sweat.
