Dining: London’s Best Immersive Events

Who needs to go to restaurants anymore? With companies like Uber EATS and Deliveroo nobody has to leave the sofa to get some decent food. So when you do go out, you want it to be a special experience.

Well, we’ve got just what you are after: immersive dining. It’s a dining experience with a lot more theatrics than your usual restaurant allowing you to immerse yourself in a different era or concept. Here are the top immersive dining experiences in London.

The Candlelight Club

immersiveAs the name suggests, this venue is completely lit by candles. The evening is set in the 1920’s so you have to dress the part. No T-shirts or jeans allowed… While they say it’s held in a secret location it appears to always be in Angel.

An entry ticket is £25 and the three-course dining menu is another £45. There are more people than seats but if you are not dining you can still book a table, which costs £60 for five people or £130 for 10, champagne included. If you’re not hungry you can stick to cocktails and show off your Charleston moves to the live jazz band and vintage DJs.

The Medieval Banquet

immersiveSet in the days of Henry VIII, this dining experience will have you feasting like a royal. Located at St Katherine’s Docks, near Tower Bridge and the Tower of London the banquet features jugglers, magicians, troubadours, and contortionists who do their thing while you enjoy a four-course meal.

You can hire costumes at the venue to look the part and the whole dining experience will set you back £50. Make sure you get a good seat as some spots are better than others to see the full show. Wine and ale are free-flowing so you should also make sure you don’t have to drive home.

Faulty Towers the dining experience

immersiveIf you’re up for a laugh, this could be the immersive dining experience for you. It is based on the 70’s sitcom “Fawlty Towers” in which lead character Basil Fawlty chaotically tries to run his hotel but it is not a straight repeat of the famous scripts – two-thirds of the show is improvised so nobody knows exactly what is going to happen.

The Daily Telegraph called it “a two-hour eat, drink and laugh sensation.” You can expect service so bad that it will make you laugh.

This immersive dining experience has been around since 1997 and it regularly tours different countries but Londoners just have to head to Kingsway Hall hotel next to Covent Garden where the performance takes place from Thursday to Sunday. There is a three-course meal with tickets £65 to £87 depending on which package and day you choose.

Dans le Noir?

immersiveIf you’re scared of the dark this may not be the one for you! This dining experience happens in pitch black, and the organisers claim that it will “awaken your senses and completely re-evaluate your perception”.

You will be guided and served by a visually impaired person and you will only be able to use your senses of smell and taste to try and determine the food you are eating and whether you like it.

The restaurant has been named the Best Culinary Experience 2017 by the British Restaurant Awards so you can be sure that the food will be good. A three-course meal will set you back £54 and a two-course meal £46. The restaurant is in Clerkenwell Green, and the closest Tube station is Farringdon.

Now you know where to go when you feel like a bit of fun with your dinner.
