London: East London’s Best Pubs

A good pub is a magical place, where you can drink until you forget your name, eat until you can’t walk and chat with friends until the sun comes up. East London is often praised for its trendy markets, hipster cafes and shops but what has always made it a special part of the capital city are its pubs.  Here are a few of East London’s best pubs!

Sebright Arms

It supports microbrewers and as a result always has an interesting and ever-changing choice of beers.

Its kitchen is on point as you know it’s a decent menu when they can get the veggie burger right! And there is live music in the basement practically every night. The line-ups are a good representation of the London gig circuit and you might just catch the next big thing as Charli XCX, Courtney Barnett, East India Youth all played there when they were starting out.

Address: 31-35 Coate Street, E2 9AG

The Old George

There’s a pub quiz every Wednesday hosted by Ewen MacIntosh who played Keith in the original UK version of The Office.  The kitchen is also up to standards; the Sunday lunch will set you back £15 but it’s worth every penny!

Address: 379 Bethnal Green Rd, E2 0AN

Mother Kelly’s

Mother Kelly’s is located under the railway arches on a little street called Paradise Row just next to Bethnal Green Tube station.

It’s a particularly cool place to sip beer as it is filled with graffiti and has good music. There are more than 20 different beers on tap, which change almost every day, and six huge fridges filled with a massive range of bottled beer that you can take home. If you love beer this is definitely a place to check out.

Address: 251 Paradise Row, E9 9LE

The George Tavern

It has attracted creative minds for centuries and today it still supports a thriving arts community with regular live music events.

Like the Sebright Arms, it has fostered the early careers of a lot of successful bands. It has a cosy outside area, a couple of sofas, some plants, and nice lights – all up it’s extremely comfortable.

Address: 373 Commercial Road, E1 0LA

The Cat and Mutton

There is live jazz on Mondays, pub quizzes on Tuesday and DJ’s on Friday and Saturday.  It’s in a great location as it’s right next to Broadway market, which is always a vibrant area on the weekend.

Address: 76 Broadway Market, E8 4QJ

No more wandering around in East London looking for a decent pub! Whether you want live music, good food or just a nice atmosphere these pubs should be just what you need to have a good time.
