Football: League Tips for Round 10

The top three clubs are all in danger of dropping points in round 10, which would allow Chelsea, Arsenal and even Liverpool to regain some ground, with the over-achievers of the season Watford and Newcastle set to maintain their momentum. Newcomer Brighton could also claw its way into the top half of the table. At the bottom of the ladder Everton should climb out of the relegation zone after sacking Ronald Koeman, leaving Stoke to slip into the misery zone.

Man Utd vs Spurs

round 10Manchester United has usually dominated this fixture but Tottenham’s stunning 4-1 home win over Liverpool last week will give the London club a big boost.

It’ll be a game of tactics and if Jose Mourinho makes his team concentrate on defending the game as he did last week then I would back Mauricio Pochettino’s men to stun the home side. However I don’t think the Red Devils will show the visitors that much respect, which should lead to an interesting game.

Prediction: 1-1

Palace vs West Ham

This is a clash between two sides lacking goals, quality and any sort of hunger and a win might set one of them up for a good run of form. Despite West Ham’s surprise mid-week triumph over Spurs in the League Cup both sides are likely to be cautious, which will lead to a drab draw unless Slaven Bilic can get Javier Hernandez firing.

Prediction: 0-0

West Brom vs City

round 10Something tells me Manchester City is going to run out of steam in round 10 after winning by the smallest of margins against Wolves midweek.

The home side seems to enjoy playing against the bigger clubs and will try once again to “park the bus” in front of their goal. A surprise set-piece goal early on will set the game up to be attack versus defence with the visitors clawing back a late equaliser.

Prediction: 1-1

Liverpool vs Huddersfield

Huddersfield beat Man United last weekend in astonishing fashion and a second big win would be a real stretch for the Yorkshire club. Despite Liverpool’s ongoing defensive problems I think its attack will get it out of jail this weekend with the impressive Mohamed Salah being the key man at Anfield.

Prediction: 3-1

Watford vs Stoke

round 10Watford is what Stoke used to be – tough to beat, tricky, well-organised and willing to fight to the very last minute. In contrast, the away side has become soft in recent times and its poor results reflect its decline in form.

Marco Silva’s side is one of my favourites this season to cause upsets and should have got three points against Chelsea in its last game.

Prediction: 2-0

Arsenal vs Swansea

The Gunners impressed against Everton last weekend and the visit of a Swansea side that is short on goals should ease Arsene Wenger’s worries about the defensive weakness that was exposed at Goodison Park. If the Welsh side doesn’t do something soon about its scoring problems there may be another managerial dismissal around the corner.

Prediction: 2-0

Bournemouth vs Chelsea

round 10Chelsea will arrive in Bournemouth sitting fourth on the Premier League table, even though  it has not been very convincing this season.

The home side somehow goes into round 10 second-bottom despite having played some great football as its lack of quality in the final third has cost it dearly this season. I don’t think it will be as clear-cut as some may expect but Antonio Conte’s side should just about take all three points.

Prediction: 1-2

Brighton vs Southampton

Southampton still hasn’t found its mojo in front of goal and the home side has no problems creating chances but converting them is a big problem for both teams. The Saints travel along the coast to Brighton having scored only five times in nine rounds and that leaves me thinking the Amex faithful could be in for a treat.

Prediction: 2-0

Leicester vs Everton

round 10These were the first two teams to sack their managers this season and I believe they both got it wrong by dismissing their bosses.

After losing to Chelsea mid-week in the league Cup Everton will be fired up to prove that Ronald Koeman was to blame for its poor Premier League start and Leicester will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins. A draw in round 10 will allow Everton to inch its way out of the relegation zone.

Prediction: 2-2

Burnley vs Newcastle

The last five rounds have seen Burnley win just once and Newcastle lose just once, recording two impressive victories in the process. Each side will be inclined to attack which will make it an enticing game but the Magpies’ superb run should continue with Rafa Benitez’s squad looking tough to break down.

Prediction: 0-1
