September is the most exciting month in fashion so an urgent update to any fashion-lover’s wardrobe is just around the corner. The start of the campus season also means a special focus on accessories and stationery so here are some ideas for your new term shopping list.
Tunics and Dresses
The start of the academic year coincides with the start of autumn but your outfits can still keep a summer flair. Be shrewd with colour, prints and asymmetric cuts, or choose vibrant yellow or vivid magenta to jazz up the early fall colour palettes.
We like Zara’s contrasting striped tunic, for £25.99, and H&M’s flounced tunic, for £29.99.
Loose Trousers
They are comfortable, easy-fitting and ideal for making a smooth transition into the busy September schedule. Coming in several colours and prints, wide leg culottes or jumpsuits are perfect when teamed with trainers or sandals for a laid-back look. They work well with a classic plain T-shirt.
Try Mango’s flowy-cropped trousers for £19.99, or Anthropologie’s lovely suspender jumpsuit for £80.00.
Sandals
When school starts we are still in holiday mode, and there’s nothing like sandals to help us cling to the last traces of summer. Flat-strap sandals are marvellous for those warmer weekdays before autumn leaves start to fall. Combine strap sandals with delicate socks for a subtle touch.
We love Aldo’s Victoria sandals selling for £70.00 and Office’s relaxed cross-strap leather flat sandals available for £40.00.
Trainers
To keep up with the sportswear trend, trainers are now a mainstay of almost every wardrobe. White trainers are a safe but versatile pick, so why not add a dash of colour to them? Matching that colour with accessories in similar tones can make a statement.
We suggest Julien David’s waves print sneakers for £47.00 at Farfetch for a colourful option, or Ted Baker’s sober deep purple lace-up colour block beauties for £95.00.
Denim Jacket
Oversized, new or second hand, they are always a wise choice for the late summer showers. This season the key to an interesting denim jacket seems to be the combination of different textures and fabrics. Keep it low-key underneath or blend several textures for a bolder look.
Zara’s range of ripped denim and bow detailed jackets are fabulous options, both for £49.99.
Bags and Backpacks
September is the time to replace that worn-out bag from last year. For arts students a backpack is a must, and it can be a key part of your outfit too. Inject a pop of colour into your outfit or play with unexpected textures for an extra edge.
Choose New Look’s nude structured tote bag for an understated mood for £19.99 and go wild with backpacks. We recommend Bimba y Lola’s leopard print backpack for £150.00, and Nasty Gal’s shiny sequin rucksack for £15.00.
Stationery
Notebooks, sketchbooks and agendas are absolutely key to giving a fresh start to the new semester. Go for Hema for lovely stationery in rainbow tones or tropical prints, opt for Liberty for more refined books and notepads in classic florals and sophisticated collages, or pick Ban.do for colourful designs and stationery sets.
Hema’s gradient collection diaries go from £7.00, and you can find Ban.do’s agendas at Asos for £20.00. For beautiful Christian Lacroix A5 notebooks at around £14.95, head to Liberty.
