The end of summer is approaching, Shorter days, colder nights, BUT still a London summer. Getting to the end may be tough, but these indie gems we have collected for our Felix Fridays #6 playlist should help you get right through it.
Discover our indie selection here.
We’ve decided to do a little run through the music, to give you a little bit of background information on the musicians and songs we’ve selected and why.
We begin with Real Estate who may just be the definition of the original indie sound. These guitars and drums, these bright melodies and this lovely voice will make sure you enjoy the last few rays of sunshine.
More indie gold follows with Ducktails, who are actually the band most members of Real Estate were part of before. You can probably recognise the similarities in the sound.
Of course, we’ve got some classics: Mac Demarco’s ‘Cooking up something good’ or Kurt Vile’s ‘Pretty Pimpin’ which you should instantly recognise if you’ve ever YouTube’s Autoplay function.
You will also discover Ariel Pink, singer-songwriter and instrumentalist… with pink hair. With over eleven studio albums under his belt, his persistence was well worth it.
We also included some old school indie hits. Ends of summers can be nostalgic, and we just needed these songs to fit our bittersweet mood. Who better than Vampire Weekend, Metronomy, and Phoenix to revive that flame? Or why not get pumped with The Drums’ ‘Let’s Go Surfing’?
Grizzly Bear have returned from the wilderness to indie fans’ delight. Grizzly Bear’s music is easily categorised as wild and unique and yet so infectious. ‘Mourning Sound’ is one of the songs from their new album and we decided to include it in our Felix Fridays #6 playlist. They’re easy to adore, and they even played at one of Bernie Sanders’ rallies last year, what more to love?
With our Felix Fridays #6 playlist, you are guaranteed to hear some of the finest indie classics and enjoy one of the last sunny days this summer. Don’t forget to subscribe to the playlist here.
And if you’re not feeling bittersweet or like it’s the end of summer at all, head to Notting Hill Carnival this weekend, you’re guaranteed to hear some of the wildest sound systems in town.
