Football: Which Stars Will Hardly Get a Game?

Neymar has become the most expensive player in football history with his move to PSG estimated to cost around £200m. That is 20 times the fee that Arsenal paid just 15 years ago for one of the greatest players ever, Thierry Henry. Fans are now screaming that the game has gone mad but everyone seems to have forgotten about the unfortunate players who aren’t going to get any game time this season because of the huge deals their clubs are making.

Marcus Rashford

footballThe Manchester United striker started off at Old Trafford two seasons ago in unbelievable form and ever since he has been described as the future of the club. However, since his rise to stardom the Red Devils have spent a vast amount on recruits who play in similar positions, like the most recent acquisition for £75m of Romelu Lukaku.

It becomes extremely tricky for a club to give opportunities to a player like Rashford because the cash spent on Lukaku puts board pressure on the manager to give the new guy plenty of game time.

Unfortunately for the England international, he may have to leave his beloved club on a loan deal to try to resurrect his career before he becomes a forgotten man.

Kelechi Iheanacho

footballAnother player who impressed when given a stint of first team games is Iheanacho. The Manchester City striker has the best goals-to-minutes ratio in the last two seasons of any player in the Premier League but the expensive arrival of Gabriel Jesus means the Nigerian is unlikely to feature for the Sky Blues.

Once dubbed the “next Kanu”, it seems his career in Manchester is coming to a rapid end as a move to Leicester City is on the cards so he can compete with Jamie Vardy for a chance to stake his claim as a top Premier League striker.

Raheem Sterling

footballA lot of fans are convinced that Sterling is still going to feature in Pep Guardiola’s plans and he may well have a role but he won’t be one of the main men.

The ex-Liverpool star has had a bit of roller coaster ride since Manchester City signed him for £50m, and with Guardiola stating that City needs more versatility in its front three I don’t expect the England winger to be a regular.

City has a host of excellent attacking players and with Sterling approaching the age at which most “world-class” football players excel, he may need a move to a lesser club to stand out.

Danny Ings

footballLiverpool fans adored Ings when he first arrived but a number of injuries have seen the ex-Burnley striker fall down the pecking order at Anfield.

The arrival of Mohamed Salah has further dented his chances of getting many games, if any, in the season ahead so the 25-year-old may have to agitate for a move back to his old club if he is to have any chance of recapturing his form.

Danny Welbeck

footballWelbeck has shown great signs of being a top-class striker but last season’s injuries pushed his progress back and the recent arrival of Alexandre Lacazette adds further doubt to the England striker’s career. With his speed and power, it’s easy to see why he was signed by United and then Arsenal but with Olivier Giroud also at the Emirates his chances of playing much football this season are extremely thin. A club like Newcastle United may want to try and tempt him away from the Emirates.

Michy Batshuayi

footballBatshuayi has more potential than most give him credit for.

He’s a fan favourite at Chelsea and has a lot in common with Belgium teammate, Romelu Lukaku but more ability with the ball at his feet. However the signing of Alvaro Morata has put his Chelsea career under pressure and he will struggle for first team football as his did last season when Diego Costa was ahead of him.

Daniel Sturridge

footballSturridge is one of the most natural finishers English football has seen in the last decade but his constant injury problems have seen him fall out of favour at Liverpool. His career was summed up in seven seconds during a pre-season game in which he skillfully lobbed the keeper but in the process pulled his groin. The signings of Dom Solanke and Mohamed Salah may mean Sturridge is forced to move away from Anfield before the window closes.
