Wimbledon: The Best Fashion You Can Afford

Players at Wimbledon have been required since the 1800s to wear only white but court-side at the All England Club is a veritable fashion display. Here we explore the best looks at Championships in 2017 and how to emulate them for a fraction of the price.

HRH The Duchess Of Cambridge

wimbledonThe Duchess attended the opening day of play to meet players and watch Andy Murray win his opening match. Catherine stunned in a £930 midi-length white and black polka dot dress by Italian design house Dolce & Gabbana.

She paired it with black block heels.

Catherine’s look can be matched for a fraction of the price in a Hobbs Astaea dress that’s retailing for £119. The Duchess is wearing a reasonably priced pair of Office block sandals which can be snapped up online for £62 but Asos are offering a very similar pair of heels for just over half the price at £39.

Catherine’s outfit totals £992 but opting for a cheaper version means saving more than £800.

Pippa Middleton

Emulate Pippa’s look for a fraction of the price in True Decadence or Love Triangle. True Decadence offers a very similar dress in a different hue.

Rather than pale pink this dress comes in pale blue and is considerably cheaper at £84. If you’re after a hint of pink then Love Triangle’s skater dress accessorised with a detachable collar and a belt will achieve a similar look.

Buying these pieces separately means savings of more than £200 even if you choose the more expensive £84 True Decadence option.

Poppy Delevingne

Steal her look with Zara’s double-breasted jacket which is a bargain at £59.99.

Pair that with New Look’s ribbed bodycon dress. Opting for Zara’s blazer saves more than £260 for an equally polished effect.

Ellie Goulding

wimbledonEllie was at Wimbledon to see Johanna Konta win a place in the semi-finals. She wore a £3,097 embroidered Gucci lace dress and heels similar to those worn by the Duchess of Cambridge earlier in the tournament.

Let the High Street inspire you with these cheaper alternatives to Gucci’s lace sensation. Reclaimed Vintage (only available at Asos) offers a dress of a different cut (high neck and long-sleeved) in virtually the same colour as Gucci’s and with similar floral embroidery but for a fraction of the price.

Similarly New Look has a considerably cheaper version in the same colour and embroidery but finished with ¾ length sleeves and a mesh skirt.

Opting for the cheaper versions of Ellie’s Gucci dress results in a saving of more than £3,000 which can’t really be argued with!

Kim Murray

She accessorised her dress with a £510 Aspinal tote bag. Although Kim’s dress is a maternity piece there’s no reason why we can’t all emulate her summery style for a third of the price.

Debenhams stocks a virtually identical shirt dress which is retailing at £25, down from £45. Similarly Asos is selling an own-brand tote similar to Kim’s but for only £22.

Buying High Street alternatives to Kim’s maternity look takes the price from £575 to a very reasonable £42 for both the dress and bag. What a steal!
