Football: Here’s How Chelsea Win the League Again..

Having missed out of Lukaku to United, Chelsea have some work to do with their squad. The Premier League champions should remember the warning of Sir Alex Ferguson, who said that it’s easy to win the title once but only the best teams can win it back to back. Here’s how they can..

Where Do I Start?

It’s hard trying to improve a squad that pretty much won the Premier League trophy without even trying however it still has work to do and with Champions League football back on the radar, Chelsea needs to get busy in the transfer market.

Out: Diego Costa, Gary Cahill and Loic Remy.

chelseaThere’s a name on that list who you probably didn’t even realise is still a Chelsea player (Remy). It is pretty obvious that he won’t ever feature again for The Blues so it’s time to cash in and get rid of him. Another not-so shocking exit would be Costa, who has demanded a transfer away from the club on a couple of occasions. Apart from his monstrous performances on the pitch, he’s a toxic character in the changing room. I have saved most of my criticism for Cahill.

To put it simply, he’s stealing a living. Somehow the world of football can’t see that the England defender should still be playing for Bolton. He’s a mess. Cahill made the most defensive mistakes last season of any member of Chelsea’s back three, had the worst pass accuracy and allowed more chances to be created from his side of the defence.

In my team, he wouldn’t even get on the bench so let’s get rid of him and send him down to League One although we could probably sneak £10m out of someone like West Ham for him.

You might be arguing that we’re letting go of two of the key players from last season but they’re easily the best bit of business that should be done at Stamford Bridge. The good news is, I already have the perfect replacements lined up. A lot of rumours this summer have suggested that Romelu Lukaku wants to move back to his old club but if you want to challenge for titles you don’t sign strikers who can only score against poor teams.

I would be putting everything into securing a move for Kylian Mbappe, if possible, as the youngster’s movement and elegance would fit right into this team. With Cahill gone, you have to ensure you’ve got defensive cover and I would be pushing every penny in the direction of Juventus to secure a deal for Leonardo Bonucci who has previously mentioned he wouldn’t mind a move to London.

Just in case that wasn’t enough to make us champions, I would complete a perfect trio of signings by bringing in Radja Nainggolan. He has the power that Nemanja Matic provides but brings more of a clinical edge to a midfield that will need it next season due to the pressures of Champions League football.

What would the starting XI look like?

chelseaConte’s 3-4-3 won last year’s title for Chelsea but now that the Champions League is on the schedule, it may be a case of playing 3-4-3 in league games and 4-5-1 in Europe to spread the workload and the risk of injuries between the different line-ups.

For the league, just one major change at the back would see Bonucci coming in for Cahill and would make us easily the toughest team to break down with Kante and Nainggolan doing the legwork in front.

The wing backs would stay the same along with the wingers but the biggest change in the team would be the introduction of the world’s most expensive signing (if we get him), Mbappe. In Europe, I would switch Pedro out for Willian to play a natural 4-5-1.

Where would we finish?

First and Champions League semi-finalists.
