Beach Body: Here’s Why We Don’t All Have One

It’s that time of year when the pressure is building to get a beach-ready body for summer. Bugger that! It never works anyway so why not relax, pork up and be proud of your chubbiness? Nothing exudes more confidence and self-esteem than showing the world that you don’t care how big your gut is.

Felix is here with some tips and tricks for those of us brave enough to release our inner slob.

Morning

beach bodyThere’s nothing more British than starting the day with a hearty fry-up. Egg yolks are rich in saturated fats, one rasher of bacon can cover your entire day’s salt intake and let’s not forget the fried bread…

Conserve calories by having someone else cook it for you – Wetherspoons is where it’s at. Their large breakfast will get you going with a 1531 Calorie punch to the gut. That’s 75% of a woman’s daily allowance and 60% of a man’s. Simple!

If JD’s fine dining doesn’t do it for you try the ridiculously popular McDonalds McMuffin. The Double Sausage Egg option contains 72% of your protein for the day, half your salt and 60% of recommended saturated fats.

Delish. Looking for something less greasy? Go for sugar with yoghurt or cereal. Many yoghurts are low in fat but brimming with sugar. “Total 0% Fat Free Greek Yoghurt with Honey” contains almost four teaspoons of delicious sugar in. Alternatively you can opt for Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut where 11g of your 30g serve is sugar!

Commute

beach bodyThere’s no excuse for exercising in London. Skip the Boris bikes and take the bus from door to door, and Sadiq Khan’s hopper fare means you’ll be saving those pennies and gaining some pounds.

Commutes are made for caffeine so pop into your favourite branch. The Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha will top you up with a fifth of your daily calories.

A large Caffe Latte from Costa is the equivalent of four custard creams and if you get it to take away you’ll inexplicably get an extra 16 calories free. Bargain!

Think beach body,,

Lunch

beach bodyPret isn’t just one of London’s most prolific chains, it’s one of the best for hidden calories. A delicious falafel and halloumi hot wrap seems like a healthy option but along with fibre and veg it adds 660 calories to your diet.

Wash that wrap down with a Berry Blast smoothie containing half a woman’s daily sugar allowance.

Finish off  with a pistachio and mandarin cake, offering 500 Calories, half your saturated fat allowance and more than a quarter of your recommended sugar intake for the day.

You’d be nuts to say no.

Snacks

beach bodyWith any luck Debbie from accounting will have brought in some leftover birthday cake but make sure to skip the stairs and use the lifts on your way to the kitchen. Otherwise pop out to Starbucks for a Lemon & Poppyseed muffin. One of those bad boys isn’t just 470 Calories. It’s got eight teaspoons (42.8g) of sugar too! Think beach body.

Not a cake fan? Go for yoghurt coated raisins. You might think it’s yoghurt but actually it’s a kind of icing made with yoghurt, sugar and oil. Holland and Barrett’s 125g Yogurty Raisin pack is a whopping 513 Calories.

Keep a bottle of refreshing Diet Coke by your desk to guzzle through the day. It might be sugar-free but its fake sweeteners cand ruin your ability to properly process sweet calories from other foods. The weight you avoid in Diet Coke, you’ll make up elsewhere!

Pub

beach bodyAfter work relax with a glass of your favourite tipple. Calorie equivalents put two Koppabergs alongside a Big Mac, a 250ml glass of wine matches a chocolate bar and a pint is a slice of pizza. We say why not do both? It’s all about the beach body.

For bar snacks go for McCoy’s Flame Grilled Steak crisps, some of the most calorific crisps out there.

Try to keep your drinking up till late in the evening – the later dinner is, the more effective it’ll be in piling on those pounds. Go beach body go.

Dinner

beach bodyNothing washes down alcohol better than a takeaway and getting it delivered will save you the steps of picking it up. On average a tikka masala, naan and rice will provide three-quarters of a woman’s recommended daily calories and the entirety of her saturated fat allowance. Don’t skip those naan breads – they can contain more calories than their equal weight in curry! If you prefer Chinese takeaway that sweet and sour selection contains some 19 teaspoons of sugar.

Did you know Domino’s frugal-sounding Thin & Crispy is actually the most calorific pizza base on their menu? And were you aware that Domino’s considers a portion to be just three medium slices?

Well now you do but forget all that. Carry on as usual and buy yourself an entire Americano, tell yourself that half is for tomorrow’s lunch and then proceed to eat it all in front of the TV. Make sure to slather those thin crusts in the garlic and herb dip – those big dip pots “to share” are each packed with a delicious 675 calories.

To make sure that you will really burst onto the beach in style, eat your takeaway in bed! Less walking means more summer “wow”. And once you’ve polished off your plate stay awake for as long as possible – remember, a lack of sleep contributes to that beach ball look.

Chow down some sugary 100 Calorie chocolate hobnobs for dessert and you’ll be bouncing on your bed till daybreak.

So there you have it – an easy way to get some enviable beach body seaside curves. Who said getting a beach body had to be hard?
