Football: Which Team Gets Robert Lewandowski?

Just the name Robert Lewandowski makes you think of goals. His rise to becoming one of the world’s best strikers has been a long one as he was only recognised as a top striker at the age of 24 while playing for Borussia Dortmund in the 2012-13 season.

Since then the Polish striker has gone on to dominate the Bundesliga having scored more than 100 goals in just over 125 appearances.

However last season’s statistics suggested that Lewandowski received fewer passes to put him in on goal than any of the other top five goal scorers in the league and in his most recent interview he made the eye-catching claim that he felt the players at Bayern Munich and the current manager Carlo Ancelotti did not support him enough.

Where next?

lewandowskiThe rumour mill is suggesting that Chelsea striker Diego Costa wants a move back to Spain, and with that in mind the newspapers have started linking Poland’s captain with a transfer to London. Costa could still go to Atletico Madrid, as it would be a pre-contract agreement meaning he would join up with his new teammates in January 2018 but continue to play for Chelsea until then.

That would leave the door open for a new striker to sign for Antonio Conte’s side but with Romelu Lukaku already closely linked to Chelsea and arguably more suited to the Italian manager’s tactics Lewandowski may have to look at other options.

Real Madrid are known to have been admirers of the ex-Dortmund striker but with Karim Benzema recently claiming that he is ready to finish his career in Madrid and the young star in Alvaro Morata now set to stay, it would appear that a move to the La Liga champions is also off the cards.

That might be a blessing in disguise as the big Pole has often wanted to be the main man. He would struggle to cement that role at either Real Madrid or Chelsea but with Manchester United letting go of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, you could argue there is no better fit for Jose Mourinho’s side than Lewandowski.

He and Ibrahimovic have similar playing styles and are extremely potent in aerial duels so the Red Devils could have the perfect replacement for the Swedish forward.

What can we expect?

United fans will be drooling at the prospect of having one of Europe’s finest strikers leading their frontline but I expect Lewandowski to renew his contract at Bayern Munich. I believe the Bayern forward is making a similar ploy to Cristiano Ronaldo’s  in using the Premier League clubs, and their desperation to sign strikers, as a way to gain a new contract and keep himself as the number one striker in the squad.

If by some freak chance he is allowed to leave the German champions then I would expect Lewandowski to sign for Chelsea due to his recent comment that the Blues have one of the best coaches in the world.
