Football: City Transfers and is Aguero on the Way Out?

Manchester City has spent big money on players from across the globe but has often found itself stuck with a squad full of players who have great potential but are not producing the goods. With Pep Guardiola in charge one would assume that is about to change so let’s take a look at who should be coming in and who should be heading out this summer if Manchester City is to compete across all competitions.

Who could be leaving?

Image result for image agueroCity fans won’t want to hear this but Vincent Kompany has his bags packed and seems ready to move onto the next chapter in his football career. The big Belgian is a huge fan favourite because of his passionate yet calm approach yet he has fallen down the pecking order due to several recurring injuries.

Having only made 10 league appearances this season, he will presumably exit in the summer. Newcastle United is lurking and could be the right move for the 31-year-old. Another fan favourite, Kelechi Iheanacho, is also expected to depart this summer

The final exit this summer is one that will leave City fans extremely disappointed. Guardiola’s attitude towards Sergio Aguero this season suggests he isn’t the biggest admirer of the Argentina international, having stated that he doesn’t work hard enough for the team.

The ex-Barcelona manager has never been one to worry about criticism from fans when it comes to transfer dealings and with Real Madrid ready to pounce, Aguero will leave for about £45m.

Who could Manchester City sign?

agueroIt will be a crazy summer for all of the top six sides with many battling it out for the same players. With Aguero’s exit imminent, I expect City to find a replacement very quickly and Monaco’s talisman Kylian Mbappe would be the first name on its target list. Despite his £80m price tag, I doubt the Manchester club will be fazed and I expect City to break the bank to sign the Frenchman.

Guardiola’s side conceded 39 goals this season and has looked vulnerable at the back ever since he arrived, which makes Kalidou Koulibaly an obvious option. City has been linked to the Napoli centre-back since January and his aggressive nature and technical ability would meet the Spanish manager’s high expectations.

Aside from those two big-money signings, I also expect the Sky Blues to make a move for Stoke City goalkeeper Jack Butland, and Ilkay Gundogan’s return from injury will be as good as having a new signing in midfield.

The Verdict?

Exits: Kompany, Iheanacho and Pablo Zabaleta.

Signings: Mbappe, Koulibaly, Butland and some unheard of gem from South America.
