If there’s one thing we love about London, it’s the views you get in the city. When the sun is shining and you stop for a moment to take it all in you’re likely to fall in love with this place all over again.
As a runner, whether new or experienced, you’re used to sharing the streets with pedestrians, tourists, cyclists, taxis, cars, buses… the list goes on. But every once in a while an organised event comes along and gives you the opportunity to claim the streets in the heart of town just for yourself (even if it might be with 15,000 other runners!).
We have put together the Top Three 10km distance events in London to give you something to train for and keep you busy over the coming months…
Vitality London 10km
Topping the poll was this race held over the late May Bank Holiday Monday preceded by a One Mile event on the Sunday with races for the whole family. The event takes over Green Park turning it into something of a festival where you can soak up the atmosphere of all that happens over the weekend.
Being London, the course is pretty flat with just a couple of hills – which you really should use to build up some downhill speed and gain yourself a little time!
The finish line brings Buckingham Palace back into sight as you run along St James’s Park. This event is usually very well organised, has a beautiful route and never fails to provide another stunning medal to add to your growing collection! https://www.vitalitylondon10000.co.uk
The British 10km
Taking place in July each year, it’s the runner-up in our 10km London series. This event has had several changes of organisers over the years and for 2017 it is under the Virgin Sport umbrella. It has a reputation for being one of the most expensive races in town but closing off the roads in Central London does not come cheap. If you do take the plunge and enter, you’re in for a treat.
Starting around Green Park it usually has a quite some fanfare at the start line.
The course is a mix of flat, gradual inclines and declines but nothing that makes you have to dig really deep. You’ll be too busy enjoying the cheers of the crowds lining the streets anyway! The 2016 route took us through Piccadilly Circus, Regent’s Street, Trafalgar Square, the Strand and Embankment before finishing on Whitehall where you could collect some more bling for your collection!

London Winter Run
Organised by Human Race, this 10k event has been going strong for three years now. As the only mass participation event iheld n London over winter it’s perfect training for a Spring Marathon. You’ve plenty of time to get ready for this event as it’s next taking place in February 2018. Early bird entries are open now so there are no excuses!
After starting at Trafalgar Square, the Winter Run takes you on a tour of the city via the City of London. Depending on the weather the crowds can be thin at times but the supporters who do turn up are always full of energy.
Added to the snow zones, penguin parties and polar bear hugs which come as part of the event, this race has a perfect feel-good spirit for just when you may be losing the will to keep running. http://www.londonwinterrun.co.uk/
