If you follow the smart people who know these things, YES it is possible! By narrowing down a series of key physical and behavioural traits you can identify an Arsenal fan without them admitting their club allegiance.
Let’s work through it. First of all since it’s football and Arsenal, 62% are men, 38% women. This is slightly less than the more macho folks up in Manchester (64%). It’s largely a London thing.. apart from its London support base Arsenal’s fans mainly come from southern England and East Anglia.
Their politics are split almost right down the middle, with a slight leaning to the left of centre. They are most likely to work in real estate, consulting or finance. These people wear suits on weekends, my friends…
Their number one dish of choice is a bowl of French fries, followed by crepes or a curry. Spot a guy wearing a suit on Saturday and eating fries, there’s a good chance he’s a Gunner.
Their most popular hobby is playing XBOX or Playstation, followed by board games, and they love Formula 1 and Tennis. They are huge TV and movie fans but are not really into ballet or going into the countryside for a forest walk. They are into sex slightly more than the average Englishman, so make of that what you will.
If pressed, they admit that they can be disorganised, difficult, insecure and lazy but they also see themselves as clever, big-hearted and communicative.
They shop at Tesco more than anywhere else, and tend to drive Ford cars. Their favourite clothing brand is JD sports (that’s called wearing tracksuits) and they bank more often at Barclays than anywhere else.
When they are not watching a match their alternative entertainment choices include movies starring Leonardo DiCaprio. Finally, they read the Sun and the Mirror and do not really pick up magazines. Now go on, check whether these characteristics fit your friends who are Arsenal fans, and see if you can identify some hidden Gunners.
