Will You Ride a Driverless Drone Taxi?

More from the World Government Summit, Dubai just announced they expect to launch a new taxi service this July which is actually a driverless drone called the Ehang 184. Of course you could spend some time on the name ‘ehang’ but that’s for another time.

The Ehang 184 AAV, which stands for Autonomous Aerial Vehicle, is the claimed to be the safest, smartest and Eco-Friendly low altitude autonomous aerial vehicle, aiming on providing Medium-Short Distance communication and transportation solution.’

The Chinese-made Ehang 184 can carry a passenger weighing up to 220 pounds for about a 30-minute trip. Dubai has been testing the driverless taxi in it’s airspace and have given the product the green light.

A passenger arrives at the Ehang Taxi and with no more that a modest brief case can enter and needs zero knowledge of how to fly. Using a touch screen to select a preset destination, passengers will be able to travel in the vehicle for up to 30 minutes at a top speed of around 60mph, while a ground based control and command centre will oversee the operations. Dubai plan to have 25% of all individual (taxi) travel using self driving by 2030.

It’s highly unlikely you’ll see these craft in London anytime soon, it’s not on TFL’s agenda yet. Here’s a look at the craft!
