Of course, we’re all awesome and know exactly how to play the game of relationships, and our girlfriend thinks the world of us all the time. Yeah right! One can always do with a bit of advice, as it means to be a decent bloke to your lady friend. Unfortunately that lady friend didn’t come with a user guide and things can get tricky sometimes. So we thought of a few gentle reminders of the main tricks of the trade you should keep in mind. Read on, gentlemen!

Always Listen

A pretty big shock in life is doing ‘listening training’ and discovering that you only ‘hear’ about 15% of a conversation’s actual facts. When it comes to being a decent boyfriend, work on this and actually spend time listening to what she’s telling you as it makes a massive difference.

Be Spontaneous

Get tickets to something live, grab a reservation at a new restaurant or book cheap weekends away to somewhere different and plan out what you are going to do. Everyone likes a surprise and if you’re the one doing it, you keep things moving in the right direction.

Better Yourself, Always

Nobody wants to be in a rut, but having a partner who’s sort of bored, boring or just complacent tends to make people think about whether this is all there is. But if you are always doing new things, learning skills and upgrading yourself, then it makes the journey with you all the much better.

Take an Interest in Her Things

You may not get into all of her passions, but make sure you show a genuine interest in what she likes and help, but don’t take over like a know-all boss man. Respect her views and take the time to understand them.

Be a Stud in Bed

The most important rule of sex is make sure she is pleased before you worry about yourself. Always work hard on foreplay and never go through the motions of sex. Be generous, but not to the point of being a wimp.

Stale Bread

If it’s really tasteless and bland, so is a stale relationship. Challenge yourself to introduce new things all the time. A surprise or a mysterious activity is so easy to do and reaps so many rewards.

Time Together

Kids, friends, going out and work all play their role in taking up your time. It’s easy to get to a place where you are spending less and less time dedicated to the two of you. Make sure you’re aware of each person’s need to just be together and hang out. Date night for longer-standing couples are actually needed for a lot of couples, as they don’t get to see each other enough. Don’t forget this.

Space

You need yours, she needs hers. You want to be a total rock star? Trust her and let her have her space. Nobody likes to be interrogated about where they were or where they are going. Side benefit, you get to do something you want.

Her Family Rocks

Whether you love or loathe the other family, they are hugely influential in how you are perceived. Be a great new member of her family and things will be smooth sailing. Resenting time at her parents’ house or trying to avoid them is not wise.

She’s Gorgeous

Remember the reason you got together in the first place. You were really turned on by her as she was really hot. Remind her of this in as many ways as you can!

Notice details. Comment on what she’s wearing, notice her new shoes orif her hairstyle changes. These things are super important – not to you, we know that, but to her it’s important and easy for you to do.

Sorry

Get confident using this word. It doesn’t come naturally to most blokes. But it really works wonders when you get into an argument. ‘Sorry, you’re right,’ is one of the most powerful statements a man can say to his lady!

Improvements

Just like you need to work on upgrading yourself, work hard supporting her career, personal goals and aspirations. Help her do better and be her wing man. She’ll love you so much more if you’re really by her side in every way.

Dates

Remember them – anniversary of everything, one month, three, six, one year, first kiss, birthdays, mother’s birthday. Put them in a calendar somewhere and set alerts. Ring, ring, buzz! Then act on it. Oh and Valentine’s Day – pretend to ignore it and then show up big with flowers or something nice.

Dick

Don’t be a dick and most things will sort themselves out, but remember the above and you’ll be on the right path.
