Shopping at Daunt Books

In a world of Kindles and the ‘screener’ generation, it’s comforting to know there are brilliant places to engage in reading like Daunt Books.Their stores are packed with well organised fiction, recommendations and top picks. Walk in a little further and you find guidebooks, language references, maps, travelogues, and books on politics, history, and geography of regions around the world. Feel free to ask the staff anything book related, they are incredibly knowledgeable.

Daunt Books is the kind of place you go when you want to discover some great reading.

Oak galleries, skylights, and Edwardian style décor is the hallmark of the Marylebone High Street branch. Established in 1912 as an antiquarian bookshop, the name then was Francis Edwards. The walk-in safe that used to store valuable books can be seen till date at the entrance. James Daunt bought the place in 1990, refurbished it, and renamed it Daunt Books. Since then it has grown to be the oldest, and one of the best London bookshops.

Customers who frequent Daunt Books are all praises not just because of the books but also because of the décor and ambiance, calling it “absolutely beautiful” and “very special”. The shop has also been called homely because of the pretty patterns on the shelves and the books arranged neatly on them.
The children’s corner is well stocked with a section dedicated to teenage fiction. The adult fiction section is a large expanse with an excellent collection by renowned authors like Margaret Atwood and John Wyndham. Daunt Books has outlets in Holland Park, Hampstead, Cheapside, and Chelsea apart from Marylebone.
